In the South Asian dishes, turmeric is widely used as a spice.

We are all familiar with its amazing flavor. We also know about its many healthy properties, which make this spice an amazing natural supplement that can treat various health issues. However, you probably haven’t heard that consuming turmeric on a daily basis can improve the health of your liver and brain.

  • Brain

Recently, it was discovered that turmeric can influence the brains. Namely, it has the ability to improve the function of the brain. Its active ingredient, curcumin, is really beneficial for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. According to research, curcumin is able to inhibit the buildup of beta-amyloid plaques by nearly fifty percent. These buildups are the primary cause of Alzheimer’s disease.

Moreover, it was also proven that curcumin possesses powerful anti-inflammatory properties. These qualities are also helpful in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, since they reduce the damage caused by oxidizing agents and inflammation.

There are also studies that show that this spice has the ability to treat depression and similar health problems.

  • Prevention of cancer and the liver’s function

For several centuries, turmeric has been used to treat liver health problems. However, only in the last several decades, scientific studies were conducted to analyze the effects of turmeric on these health issues.

This spice is very beneficial to the liver health because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It was discovered through scientific research that turmeric is able to reduce the damage of the liver that was caused by ethanol. Ethanol is an alcohol type that we consume. Turmeric is also effective in the treatment of high toxic levels, iron overdose, liver diseases such as cholestasis and cirrhosis or scaring of the liver.

What is even more important is that curcumin reduces the chances of suffering from liver cancer. It has this ability because it reduces the effects that carcinogens, such as thioacetamide, have on the liver.
